Directions
1. Plan exact date that CD will be released.
You will need to have CDs made and ready to go about three months before your release party in order to properly promote the album and show.
2. Make the album available for online distribution.
You will have to find a distributor that will make your album available for digital download. See Online Music Distribution for a list.
3. Find and book the venue.
Start by going to venues you have played at previously. If you impressed them before, they will be more likely to book your release show. Put up flyers and posters for your show at the venue so their regular customers will know about the show.
4. Send out press releases and CDs.
Send out your press materials about 8 to 12 weeks in advance for traditional media. For new media, a week or even less is plenty of notice.
5. Invite your street team and get them involved.
If you don't have a street team find out how to make one here. Invite them in advance and give them all of the details. Give them flyers or cards to pass around town and publicize the show.
6. Update the calendars on your website and web presence profiles.
Make sure that all of your calendars are updated with new album release and concert dates.
7. Send out party information to your mailing list.
A month before the show, publicize the event in your mailing list. Remind everyone again about a week before the event. Also, consider setting up a Facebook or Evite event so people can RSVP to this special event.
