Directions
1. Find an online store that sells CDs.
There are a ton of sites that will help you sell your CDs and handle the storing and shipping. They all have different options, payment plans, and fees, so you should choose the one that works best for you. Make sure that the service you use will not take any of the rights to your music. It is fine to have storefronts at more than one site. Click here to check out our listing of CD stores.
2. Send in your physical CDs if necessary.
You will need to have a few copies prepared to send to the store. Double check their requirements to see what the minimum is and send them in quickly. The sooner they get your CDs, the sooner you can start selling them.
3. Brand your new storefronts using your brand toolbox.
Make each of your new storefronts look like you. Customize the colors to match your palette, add your photos and background images. It should look just like a site you would own or one of your web presences. Click here to learn how to build a brand toolbox.
4. Make comparisons to familiar acts and cite good reviews and publicity.
In your album description, list a few well-known bands that have a similar sound to yours. Also feature any positive reviews and great quotes your music has received. This will help to draw in customers who are not familiar with your music.
5. Offer some samples so customers can preview before they buy.
If the CD store allows it, you should offer some song samples. If they do not allow clips, you can bypass this by adding some to your own website and then link to them in the album description section of your storefront
6. Link the storefront to your website and vice versa.
Buying music should be as easy as possible for your fans. Every album storefront you have should be linked on your site, preferably on every page of your site. Then each storefront should link back to your website so casual browsers can find more information about your band and music.
