Directions
1. Create a music artist account on MySpace.
Sign up is simple and totally free. It is a good idea to use a band email address and to make your password as unique as possible. MySpace accounts with easy to guess passwords regularly get phished and send out spam without your knowledge.
2. Embed HTML code into your profile to brand it.
This sounds difficult, but it really is not. For help on how to brand your MySpace page, check out the MySpace Tools category. Most of these services are free, but you might have to add a note somewhere on your page about who designed it.
3. Fill in all the appropriate fields of the MySpace profile.
On your profile you can fill out the names of band members, website URL, your influences, and label information. It is up to you how much you want to share. We recommend putting your website address on there as well as booking contacts. Instead of adding your full written biography, embed pictures and video clips.
3. Tweak your account settings to block spam and unwanted comments.
MySpace is notorious for spam messages, invites, and comments. To change your privacy settings, head to the account settings page and click the Change Account Settings link. Check the box that requires you to approve friend comments. Now no one can post anything on your page without your OK. Next block events from everyone who is not your direct friend. This includes Users, Bands, Filmmakers, and Comedians.
4. Upload your best songs to your profile and make the very best song first on the list.
Set your music player to Autoplay so that your songs will beging playing as soon as the page loads. Upload album art with each song as those will be displayed when the songs play.
5. Allow users to embed your songs.
Set your song settings so that users can embed your songs onto their profiles. This gives you some free exposure because everyone who goes to that person's page will hear your song. If you later remove a song from your profile, all of the embedded links on others' pages will be broken.
6. Make your profile multimedia by adding photos, embedded videos, and more.
Upload your band photos in the photo section. You can organize them into albums like, Live in Chicago, Recording Session Pics, whatever you want. Under the biography section, add embedded live videos from your YouTube account so that viewers can see you in action without leaving your page.
