Directions
1. Choose and encode MP3s of songs you would like to share.
Most hosting sites take MP3s as the standard format for songs. Sometimes you can use other formats, but for the most part MP3s are the most widely accepted. Many sites only let you upload works that are 100% original, so you might not be able to post your cover songs. Click here if you need to learn how to encode MP3s.
2. Make sure your songs are properly labeled and tagged.
For the sake of organization, you want your songs to be labeled and tagged properly with ID3 tags. Also, if the hosting site you use allows users to download your songs, you will want them to be labeled correctly in your fans' music libraries. Click here to learn how to tag your MP3 files.
3. Find a site (or multiple sites) where you want to host your music.
You can host your music wherever you like. Some sites are free and some will charge you money. It really depends on your preferences and the features you desire. Check out our listing of music hosting sites here.
4. Register at your selected sites and upload your music.
Follow the site directions and upload the music you have chosen to your site account.
5. Set your preferences for your profile and song sharing.
Different sites will have different options for how you want to display and share your songs. Some might let you opt in to letting your songs be downloaded for free, others might allow you to sell songs. You can change the layout of your page and decide the order in which your songs are displayed. All of these choices are up to you, however you should brand each page so that it always looks like your band. Click here to learn how to brand your online profiles.
