FreeDB is a direct competitor to the Gracenote Media Database, fulfilling the exact same function. Know when your MP3 player will pull in the track names automatically? Some of them get it from this database. If you have a CD of your own, you can insert your CD into the database by using one of the MP3 players that are listed on this website, typing in the tracks when it doesn't come up, and then use the submit button from the MP3 player.
You can use their website to get a listing of other players that use it and can input your CD information into their database.
