The College Music Journal is the charting authority for college radio. If you chart on CMJ, you will often get media attention, and will find it easier to get reviews. Major labels often uses CMJ charting as the "minor leagues" before paying the exhorbitant rates that it costs to get on commercial radio for their bands.
Many bands have gotten charted on CMJ by just making phonecalls and doing a dedicated college radio campaign. Of course, it helps if your music is good...
