Moblyng

People are using cellphones more and more for things other than phone calls. All of the text messages, pictures, and sounds being shared between friends has opened up new opportunities for bands to create a mobile fan community. One such site helping artists connect to their fans through cellphones is Moblyng.

Moblyng has software called “The Moblyzer” which lets you turn media that is already posted on social networking sites or widgets into mobile messages. These messages — which can contain URLs, pictures, videos, and more — can be sent directly to your fans’ phones. Creating a free account on the site lets you make and save photo slideshows, like the best shots from last night’s gig.

Moblyng’s messages are supported by many types of phones, and most importantly, the service is completely free outside of the regular messaging and Internet costs of each individual’s cellphone plan. We tested this by creating a Moblyng account, making a quick slideshow and sending it to ourselves. From the beginning of this process to receiving the message on my phone, the whole process took six minutes total. So this is a free way to keep in touch with fans without any huge time commitment.
