PodPress is an addin for the Wordpress blogging system. If you wish to have a podcast and want to host it on your own system, one of the best solutions is to use Wordpress with the podpress plugin. It will automatically create the correct kind of feed for your podcast, will pull in the ID3 information from your MP3 files, and it will handle interfacing with the various podcast web presences out there, such as Podcast Pickle.
If you have a wordpress blog, Podpress is a highly recommended plugin for it.
