Loophole to get commercial radio play? |

My band, Harriet Tweed, has recently stumbled across a great opportunity that I just needed to share since it is exactly the type of thing described in the guide... Earlier this year, a new website launched in Sioux Falls, SD focusing on local dining and entertainment (www.fallsfood.com). The owner approached us and asked if we would be interested in adding a couple of our tunes to a sister site calls fallstunes.com. Of course we accepted. Since then he's been really cool about making sure all our shows were mentioned in his newsletters and events calendars. Recently, he asked us to write a "jingle" for his website that would be played on two of the more popular radio stations in town. The word "jingle" doesn't exactly fit in line with what most indie bands are interested in but he really wanted us to write a song in our own style. So last week we wrote and recorded a 45 second song that lyrically features his website but musically stays true to our vision. In addition, the radio ad starts off by introducing our band and ends with ways to find us online. The owner loved the song so much he has even started doing some graphic design work for us. Essentially, by the beginning of next week we'll be getting regular spins on commercial radio with a guarantee that our name will get mentioned. I can't help but wonder how many small businesses out there spend a ton of money to have a cheesy, crappy jingles written for them when they'd probably be ecstatic to have a good local band write a clever catchy tune instead. So far for us it's turned out to be a win-win (win) situation. Anyone else have a similar experience? Once the master gets back I'll be sure to post the tune on our website...www.harriettweed.com Posted on 2010-08-03 12:37:52 |

Here's the song... fallstunes.com . The commercial that is airing introduces the band and the last 15 seconds or so has a typical commercial voiceover that mentions Harriet Tweed again. It's a simple little diddy and imagine most bands could come up with something like this pretty quick if motivated... Posted on 2010-08-19 10:57:31 |
