What the topic says - this site can not only be a great resource to look things up, but a great way to be open about all things bands face.
Think of it as an electronic support group. ;)
So... what would y'all like to talk about? And what questions would you like an answer for?

Hey ACL, Speaking of discussing things... We were able to migrate the orginal Indie Band Survival Guide we had posted over at BeatnikTurtle.com. We just re-did our band site (it was on our list for a long time) and we now have it hosted here where it belongs. So, it'll continue to be free, downloadable, and sharable for all. Randy and I are updating a few things in the PDF now and hope to have a revised version later this week instead of the May 2006 version. Obviously, the book tackles far more than what we have in the orginal PDF, but we always felt it important that the PDF always be available. Anyway, the new home for the original Guide is here: http://indiebandsurvivalguide.com/wiki/page/Original_Indie_Band_Survival_Guide And now back to working on this here site...! Jason,
What a very cool thing to do - most folks would have hidden the earlier version to eke (or eek!) a few more sheckels out of the masses... so this is highly appreciated (from this corner, at least).
And the new BT redesign is very, very cool... but I'm afraid you've made a serious mistake: in the Store section, you posted a entry for T-shirts & Merch (coming soon)...
And now that you've made that official, Wendy will never stop bugging you guys for a T-shirt until you actually start making them. Posted on 2008-08-12 10:25:13 |

Heh...we promise the Beatnik Turtle t-shirts are on the way. It's on our to-do list. It's just a very long list...! We're of course thinking the turtle. If there's any other design in particular you think we ought to do, we're all ears... Keeping the original Indie Band Survival Guide free and sharable was always a high priority for Randy and me. I'm working on updating the PDF now actually. That comes first...before band t-shirts. :) Posted on 2008-08-12 17:08:49 |

Wen sez it should definitely be the turtle - but she says HER shirt should be signed by the entire band. (Picky, picky...)
And although I agree with you on finishing the PDF first, Wen might, ummm, choose to differ. ;) Posted on 2008-08-13 10:40:39 |

I have some friends who need this kind of help but won't want to buy a book. I can't afford to buy it for them either. Can this site be of much help without the book? Thanks, Fist Posted on 2008-09-16 22:54:46 |

Thanks, >Fist It's actually at a lot of libraries already. That's what I would suggest. Of course, if you want one, it's also only around $10 online, so all you really have to do is beat up some kids for their lunch money, and you can get one. Anyway, this site collects all of the resources that we wish that we had from the beginning. They can all be used without the book. They are (hopefully) categoried in a way that solves particular problems that musicians have. Before we had this site, we used to have to do random searches all of the time for them. We're working on writing little articles about each category that we have on here, so that you can learn how to use each one. That will take us some time, though. If any of you want to become a music guide, tell us. The goal of this site is to provide resources for musicians, rated by musicians, and show them how to use it if they want the help. The more people we have explaining how to succeed, the better. Oh, and if you have suggestions, or especially criticisms about the site, that's what we want to hear more than anything. It's new. We just got done writing the book. And we just finished designing the site, and populating it. But it's not going to stand still. We make changes and updates to it every day. Help us make this site better! In small ways as well as big ones. Posted on 2008-09-19 11:06:38 |
